Every year again - dry skin in winter
Who doesn't know this in winter: flaky skin patches, itching and the feeling that the skin lacks freshness and elasticity.
The constant change between cold weather outside and dry, warm heating air inside draws moisture from the skin and leaves its mark.
In cold temperatures during the winter months, the production of sebaceous glands, our body's own fats, decreases, and blood vessels constrict. This reduces blood flow to the skin, thins the natural protective layer , and makes the skin drier.
In addition, the skin tries to compensate for the differences between cold outside air and warm, dry air from the heating system. As a result, the skin's natural moisture content decreases, causing dry patches, redness, or tightness.
With our tips for stressed winter skin and the right care for body and soul, you can enjoy smooth and radiant skin even in winter:
1. Short and lukewarm
Avoid frequent or hot baths or showers. Water that's too hot damages the skin's barrier. Use only lukewarm water for skincare. Washing too often will further dehydrate your skin. Bathe at a water temperature of approximately 25 degrees Celsius for a maximum of 15 minutes. Treat yourself to a warming and relaxing foot bath with our bath salts . The salt has a slightly moisturizing effect and nourishes your skin.
2. Gentle care
Use shower gel, shampoo (try washing your hair no more than 1-2 times per week), and facial cleanser with mild surfactants. Among the mildest surfactants are sugar-based non-ionic surfactants . You can recognize them by their name "glucosides." Alternatively, try the oil cleansing method with pure plant oils and surfactant-free ingredients.
3. Don't forget to oil it
In the cold season, a body oil pure or mixed with body lotion is a must after every shower.
Hands are especially stressed in winter. Regularly massage a few dropsof body oil onto cracked cuticles and hands, and wear gloves when outdoors. This will keep your skin supple, and the massage will also stimulate circulation.
Vegetable oils and butters are similar in their fat structure to the structure in the skin barrier and are therefore particularly valuable for the skin.
4. Facial care & sun protection
Moisturizing ingredients protect the skin from moisture loss and prevent dry and itchy skin. Therefore, use a daily moisturizer with a high oil content. Mix Soothing Nectar moisturizer or your cream with 3-4 drops of facial oil. If you're spending long periods outside in the cold, always protect water-based products with water-free products such as Miracle Beauty Balm . This way, the moisture stays in the skin and isn't drawn out.
Even in winter, our skin needs sun protection. Although the sun is less intense (except in the mountains), we are exposed to UV rays year-round.
5. Get Cozy
Slip into your kimono and cozy up with a cup of tea. The green and pink tones are sure to cheer you up against the winter blues.
6. Drink and eat yourself beautiful
Drinking plenty of water every day (at least 2 liters) helps maintain fluid balance and prevents wrinkles. The right vitamins and nutrients strengthen the skin. Vitamin C supports collagen production, while zinc, iodine, biotin, and vitamin A help maintain skin function.
